Bodies-in-Motion was established in January 2005 by a group of local people as a non- profit making organisation aiming to address issues of fitness, health & well-being in Pendle & surrounding areas. Originally using a volunteer workforce operating across a couple of sessions per week, Bodies-in-Motion now has activities on 6 days per week, employs paid instructors and works closely with mainstream organisations across the borough and beyond.
Bodies-in-Motion aims to promote the overall health & well-being of the people of Pendle & surrounding areas, without distinction, through the provision of structured activity, largely, but not exclusively, associated with fitness & sport, & including targeted projects to advance positive lifestyle choices re leisure activity, education, training & employment.
Recognised in 2009, by Sporting Equals – a branch of Sporting England - as one of the top six voluntary sector projects nationally to be making a real impact on the lives of local people, Bodies-in-Motion acts as the umbrella organisation for a number of separately funded projects; Bodies Fitness, Bodies Education, Bodies Football, Bodies Adventure……in fact Bodies anything which contributes towards overall health & well-being.
Bodies-in-Motion is now a frontline organisation which engages with local people helping them gain confidence, knowledge & skills to move on with their lives. For some the wider picture is about their own fitness but it can start with simply getting out of the house, being able to bring a healthy lifestyle to their families or even just making positive use of their non-work time. For others it’s about getting their work life sorted - moving on to further or higher education or gaining employment or becoming a volunteer. Whatever their purpose, involvement with Bodies helps people take a positive outlook towards their own lives & those of the community around them.
Bodies-in-Motion works closely with local youth services through which we are able to offer a range of qualifications to recognise members'' work. While many of these are specific to a particular project, they do a lot to build confidence & open the door to other qualifications. In 2010 Bodies in Motion achieved recognised centre-status with Active IQ, the awarding body of choice for the Active Leisure Sector. Since then Bodies has built a successful history of delivering fitness qualifications and helping members of the local community acquire new knowledge and skills and to improve their future career prospects.
